Frost!

Frost!

Jim immediately knew the theme of today’s post as we started our morning walk LOL. Our low was 29!  I would guess this is the last frost this spring and my blackberry patch still looks good! This spot on our morning walk is a cold spot. Lots of frost! The colors were highlighted by the…

Sandstone!

Sandstone!

Continuing on with Tuesday’s grassland visit… Possumhaw. Bushy Bluestem. It likes the wet areas. The sandstone is just wonderful! It is like a sun! Beautiful reds. You can’t see too much of these colors? I would say not. 🙂 I can see a cat’s face in here. Back further from the cat face. Colors are…

Plague doctor

Plague doctor

Before I start in with the grasslands, I saw these “zipper” clouds today around noon (that is a name I just made up). The sky was clear by 3 pm.  Continuing on with Tuesday’s grasslands outing… Does this remind you of the Plague doctor? We were in the safety zone, right. A heart shape or…

This ground beetle was making a meal of the leftover pecan. Maybe in the Pterostichus genus. Milkweed fluff. Gayfeather (Liatris mucronata) standing tall! Not sure what plant this is,…

Clouds and Xerociris wilsonii

Clouds and Xerociris wilsonii

The morning started off with some cool clouds. Just love the patterns.  Ailanthus Webworm Moth (Atteva aurea) Five-banded Thynnid Wasp (Myzinum quinquecinctum) This is a Wilson’s wood-nymph moth (Xerociris wilsonii) caterpillar. It is the 30th record in the US and a new record for Wise County. Last year, Jeanne found one on her place in Montague…
