Full day…

First full day of the adventure follows on the Caddo NG. And the sights were great!

We decided to take a different route to the Caddo NG. A White Four O’clock (Mirabilis albida) was spotted along the county road. Why is it called a White Four O’clock I have no clue. Perhaps some were white?
The buds were starring back. 😉
Looks like this flower was ready to take a bite. 🙂

Open wider!

What were the hungry mouths? They were the flowers of Self-heal (Prunella vulgaris)! Roadsides, gotta love’em.

Just a tad further along, the Blue Grosbeak cooperated and posed.

Finally reaching the unit I had picked for our day’s adventure, a milkweed (Asclepias).
Indeed, it was not long before I found a Monarch cat!
So cute with its stubby little tentacles.

The Penstemon laxiflorus was starting to fade.
Chilled, the little fly held still for a front face photo.

No breeze meant the reflections were awesome!

An orange beauty!

A flexible mushroom let me get the gill shot.

So in the field I did not notice the slug. Only when I got back to camp and sorted the photos did I see it. LOL Slugs are know to eat fungus. Pretty neat, eh!

After making our way around the unit, we ended up on the opposite side of the pond above.

And what another great day!

Keep looking!

The more you know, the more you see and the more you see, the more you know.
