Fossil Hill (part 9)

Ooops, if you subscribe via email, I accidentally hit the send button too quick today for the post “Moving to a new area- part 3”. πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ I will post parts 1& 2 in a few days. And then part 3 again afterwards.

Now back to Fossil Hill. 😊

At this point, we had turned back towards the house. However, the awesome scenery does not stop.

The lake could be seen in the background. The dead branch caught my attention. Definitely a dragon pointed to the sky. πŸ˜‰

Four spiny amigos, Spinystar Foxtail cactus (Escobaria vivipara var radiosa). Perhaps they had bad breath and needed to distance themselves?

A Pussy-toes (Antennaria parlinnii). Pussy-toes are dioecious having separate male and female parts on different plants.

Mosses are abundant at Fossil Hill like this species of Hedwigia ciliata. Thirty-eight moss species have been documented at Fossil Hill!

Two holes, were they nostrils?

Of course, I couldn’t resist. Bowling ball finger holes I decided.

Stair steps of polypore shelf fungus!

Jeanne says the water runs fast here when it rains.

More lovely mosses and lichens covered boulders!

Engelmann’s Adder’s-tongue (Ophioglossum engelmannii) with the little liverwort capsules!

Back at the house, I got the view of where we had been along the lake shore. What a view, eh!

Keep looking!
