Today’s theme may stump you or knot. The Wizard of Oz was a pretty frightening movie to me when I was a kid. I always thought the Fighting Trees in the movie were pretty scary. Imagine now if you were in the forest with the following characters that were the pets of the Fighting Trees…

I can see all kinds of critters and monsters. Sorta like looking at clouds I would say. I numbered them in case you want to leave a comment on your favorite or what you thought it was.
We have this old tank in our woods left by the previous owners. Our girls use to pretend it was submarine. Why isn’t the lichen growing as heavy in the one spot on top?
Closer view of the spot. Lichens do this all kinds of surfaces. Maybe the spot gets more sun or shade. I will watch to see.
#2 looks like a wild eyed eel to me. Never noticed about the sub, very cool.

#2 & #3 I'm assuming is the heart wood separated from the rest of the outer part of the tree? Wonder what kind of tree it was that if it is the core, it was apparently harder.
Kathy, Yes 2 & 3 are the same piece of wood. The tree is an Ash Juniper. We cut it down years ago so it would not get in the hand dug well.
