Before it melted

I was thinking the ice might all melt today. So I got out this morning to see what I could find.

Post Oak acorns!

Sideoats Grama (Bouteloua curtipendula) zig zag stem!

The moss in our birdbath was not looking green.

The thread on an Arkansas Yucca.

Tip of a Partridge Pea (Chamaecrista fasciculata) pod.

Thistle rosette.

Yarrow (Achillea millefolium).

Seed head of Prairie Gaillardia.

Lichens with the thick layer of ice. Certainly a glassy look!

More iced lichens.

Even more. LOL

Bark of a Mesquite.

Lichens on Mesquite bark.

The ice really did made the lichens funky looking.

And I loved it!

Western Horse Nettle (Solanum dimidiatum) for a bit of color.

Classic hanging icicles!

Icicles at Edgar’s home. Press release: Jim saw a pair of adults checking out the House of Edgar recently. Fingers crossed!

Did any of you get outside too? The ice will be gone before you know it. Our high was 35 degrees and the rain bucket has .18″. The ice was mostly gone by the afternoon. Our mail even came today. And I can see blue sky out now (6pm) to the west.

Stay safe!

  1. I’m in awe of your ice sculpture photos. I truly have no words – so beautiful. Hoping fervently that Edgar’s family will choose his old homestead again for a nest!

  2. Ice really transforms things – new way to see. We did not get the ice like you did – mostly sleet.
So how many books did you order? Lots of temptation there!
