Some of you will remember Edgar. So anytime I see a Black Vulture I wonder if could be Edgar.
So a few days ago I spotted a pair of Black Vultures at our available rental property, the old well house. This afternoon a pair of Turkey Vultures were in a nearby tree.
This was the former nursery for Edgar.
Slowly I got closer. They were getting anxious now.
First one lifts off!
Up and away!
Aren’t those pretty primary feathers!
Second one had enough of me too. đ
Both only went as far as a nearby tree.
Just in case, I checked to make sure no eggs were present. Last year a pair had looked over the nursery, but they decided against the location.
Now I will keep my fingers crossed a new couple moves into our rental property this season. The rent is real cheap. ($0).
A Savannah Sparrow was here in the early morning hours when it was 9.7F.
As you can see we had a dusting of snow last night. We had a few flurries in the morning hours.
The Funaria serrata moss in the sunshine!
Despite the cold, I managed two walks today. Once at 15 degrees and the other in the afternoon sunshine at 27 degrees. Same moss as above. You can see the blue sky in the one of the ice bubbles.
The more you know, the more you see and the more you see, the more you know

Those birds are sure fluffed up for the cold!
I find that the vultures here regularly use the same nest area every year – that way I can check them out for nest watch!

Do you usually get the Black, Turkey or both?
And the free living coral videos are truly wonderful as well as beautiful
I wonder if the vultures will nest there now that they know youâre watching them. Hope so. Amazing living coral
Neat that they can move!
I love Black Vultures so much. Such delightful birds, and such sweet faces. I hope they stay. Great ice pictures as usual too!
Thanks
The quantum mechanics of photosynthesis article is super interesting!
Indeed
I have only seen black vulture nests here – they nest in/under rock cavities and overhangs
I dont ever recall seeing Turkey Vultures nest. And Edgar was the only one that occupied the nursery.
