A Grasshopper Was My Highlight

So it made it up to 45F today. However when I took my walk it was only 38F.

The millipede (Aniulus) was trotting along despite the cold.
The Tiny Bluets (Houstonia pusilla) don’t mind the cold!
Robins were out too. It was hard to get their pictures. Yes, there is a robin in the photo.
Here a robin almost cooperated. 😉
Finally one made into the center of the shot.
In the trees above, I saw cardinals and one Red-breasted Nuthatch! Of course neither were cooperative s0 this shot just has the trees and blue sky. LOL.
The Ruby-crowned Kinglet as usual was hyper-active. At least I got the rear view. LOL.

At 38F, I didn’t know if the any of the Spring Beauties (Claytonia virginica) would be open. But there was one brave soul. Maybe others showed there faces once it got warmer.
Back on the ground, this 3rd or 4th instar Northern Green-striped Grasshopper (Chortophaga viridifasciata) nymph was the star today for me. Furthermore this is the first one for me. When they grow up, they can be either green or brown. Don’t you love that ridge on their pronotum!

Hope you enjoyed your Sunday too!
