The temperature dropped here about 3pm. And by that time I had already done my walks for the day.
The following photos were taken on February 8th. It had been a jacket day for sure. A cold Paper Wasp (Polistes) was warming up in the sunshine.
An American Lady (Vanessa virginiensis) like a lot of butterflies can be hard to spot if not on a flower.
Question Mark (Polygonia interrogationis) is similarly shaped as a Goatweed Leafwing butterfly. Question Marks have some black on the inner wings.
The Possumhaw’s (Ilex decidua) orange berries seemed to be looking back at us.
Gullies are great place to observe the layers in the soils!
Appropriately named, the Bristly Greenbriar (Smilax tamnoides)!
An old baby food jar artifact! It didn’t surprise me to find this because there was old dump nearby. In fact I had found the heap on a survey many years ago. Like many people did back in the day, they put there trash in ditches.
Don’t mess with me said the Honey Locust. π
The last collection was a moss.
Finally a large Cottontail dashed away into the underbrush!
Looks like a headless ballerina on the greenbriar. π
πit really does! I kept trying to make it a goat but not reallyπ€·π»ββοΈ
So nice to have these reminders of what we did on a day – is like doing it all over again.
Yes!ππΌ
