It was a gorgeous day to take a tour of the grasslands named bodies of water. Well those that are east of 287/81. So it was a total of seven ponds/lakes!
So we started at Rhoades Lake! Off on the far side we spotted American Pipits, a single Killdeer, and a small raft of Double-crested Cormorants.
At Clear Lake we found a Wilson’s Snipe. As you can see I was trying to digi-scope. It has been a long time since I have used the scope. Furthermore never have I tried to use my phone for this. Additional there were Ring-necked Duck, Lesser Scaup, Pied-billed Grebe, and a Redheads. After this lake we stopped in for a quick look at Bickley’s Pond. It was low and we didn’t see any water birds. 🙁
Next stop was at Black Creek Lake.
Here we saw Ring-billed Gulls, Double-crested Cormorants, Red-shouldered Hawks, and six Great Blue Herons!
So I know these are blurry.
We also saw a Belted Kingfisher grab a small fish!
Leaving the back side of Black Creek was this hole in the cloud with a pole in the middle. So this has nothing to do with the tour, but I liked the cloud. 🙂
We drove around to the other side of Black Creek to get closer.
Reflection at Black Creek!
Next on the tour was Cottonwood Lake. We could see a few Canada Geese way off. And some unknown species of ducks nestled on the shore.
We could see a few Canada Geese way off.
Second to the last pond was Dan’s Pond. Here we had Redheads and Canada Geese!
Last stop, Rucker’s Pond!
Final bird was a Yellowlegs! In fact this speedster was hard to keep in the frame.
Indeed a wonderful day with little wind for our water tour!
There are lots of critters around that hole in the clouds. And thank you Sally Gale for saving so many critters.
Love all those cloud reflections!
I love the Black Creek Lake reflection photo.
Looks like the ducks must be hiding somewhere else! Love the newt crossing article.
