From our eye level this fuzzy yellowish gall lying on the ground fooled us. We thought we had a fuzzy caterpillar. LOL.
A Leaf Beetle has no common name in BugGuide. However iNat calls the Leptinotarsa haldemani. a Haldeman’s Green Potato Beetle. Their host larval plants are in the Solanaceae. They have several color morphs from green to bronze to bluish.
Narrow-leaf Milkweed (Asclepias stenophylla) shiny seed had left home. This was my guess on the milkweed seed because they all look similar. But this was smaller than the usual Green Milkweed and the mother plant was only a foot away.
Daddy Shortlegs (Opiliones) is a cool animal with short legs unlike Daddy Longlegs.
Prickly Pear Cactus spines are something you don’t want to get stuck by. However at the base of big spines (if it has spines) you will find these, the glochids. They are almost invisible. I have thrown out several pieces of clothing that I had tangled with these.
A different view of a black Salt Marsh Moth (Estigmene acrea) caterpillar. 🙂
The lovely face!
A fallen Post Oak now on its side was filled with water from the recent rain. A window into another dimension?
That milkweed seed with all the hairs in focus would be another great photo entry for NPSOT contests.
Love the reflection shot in the water in the log.
I just in from outside and both the Daddy Shortlegs and the Daddy Longlegs are out moving around this evening. We have a lot of both.
Another dimension from the twilight zone – kinda eerie!
Videos on the Chile margin are really cool – so many unique creatures with such graceful movement.
Love the close up of the caterpillars face. Never noticed it was so pretty. Crabs sure are cute.

These recent days have truly been glorious! House windows wide open every day!
I love fall days.
