Slick as Snot!

Continuing along in the wet Fannin County on the Caddo NG.

Bizarre finger galls!
Beautifully shaped gilled fungus!
A thick stemmed Bolete mushroom had fungus beetles crawling underneath!

Split in half it revealed the love.(heart shape)! LOL.
Next a Red Chanterelles (Cantharellus cinnabarinus)! Tentatively ID’d.
The gills are crazy beautiful!

And here was by the far the most bizarre mushroom I found. Certainly it was on this day! Why did I think it was bizarre? See the shiny cap?
In fact it was not just shiny, but slimy all over!

Putting the flash on it highlighted the pale lavender stem! Yep slick as snot. 😉

Splitting it open and it was still purple. And this really was the true color.

Bizarre, eh!

More great treasures tomorrow!

  1. Wow all of them are great but love the violet! The slimy snot wasn’t so appetizing seeing that I am eating while looking at this 🙂

  2. The slimy snout isn’t appealing to me and I’m not eating Kathy. Some gorgeous fungi tho. And interesting about the horned rabbit.
