Jerry shared a few of his photos yesterday. So first I will start by sharing a couple of Jerry’s photos with you.

Now none of the above was about a relocation. Relocation efforts follow. 🙂

Here is a view of our recent efforts in our field. Well, I should mention that it is Jim’s work. In our fields wild plums and other miscellaneous tree removal has been going on for several years now. Additionally the tree removal seems to have brought the meadowlarks back. Yahoo! Indeed I love their songs.
So a brush pile of some of work was made. Now to step back a moment, I have been lamenting to Jim about not seeing any Eastern Tent Caterpillar Moth (Malacosoma americana) on my favorite plum patches this spring. Do you see the start of a tent? In fact Jim noticed it. 🙂
Then the suggestion was made for a relocation since the leaves would die now! Of course I definitely agreed!
The long white hairs are fairly white at this stage in their life.
Looking back at an April photo of mine from long ago you will notice the hairs turn a golden brown. Indeed a beauty!

A new location!

So a lot of folks worry about the aesthetics of the tent. Additionally the leaves that are eaten leave the tree bare. However the leaves will grow back as nature intended. Moreover for the bird lovers, many will provide food for nestlings and adults.

Yep relocation was a good thing!

  1. The tent caterpillars on our plums in the country never slowed the plums down. We always had lots of fruit and they are very pretty caterpillars. Glad you moved them.

  2. The Curry Home for Wayward Caterpillars! I’m glad you saw the start of the web in time to move it.
