Jeanne and I headed out to the creeks today. Yes of course I took a ton of photos. Thus I have a lot of photo naming. LOL Today a few photos from the early morning walk. Tomorrow I will start posting the treasures we found today on the outing.

I let this Ground-cherry (Physalis) grow in my tomato garden. It certainly did better than my tomatoes. LOL

The Chicken of the Woods fungus (Laetiporus cincinnatus) has started to grow again. So so beautiful with the orange sherbet color! This fungus is “parasitic and saprobic on living and dead oaks; causing a brown rot of the butt and roots; growing alone or gregariously at the bases of oaks or on the ground nearby; late spring through fall; fairly widely distributed from the Great Plains eastward.“

Several of the Darkling Beetles (Diaperis maculata) scurried off to safety. They like to hide in bark and fleshy fungi!
They were small and did not stay in the open for long.

Indeed I will be checking for a Fungus Moth (Metalectra) caterpillar too. I found one there last year so my fingers are crossed for another. My attempt to raise last year’s failed.
