The nature nerds were out on the Cooke County roads yesterday! And goodness it was fun as always. Treasures and treasures!
Jim and I had gotten up early so we could take the usual morning walk before the nature nerds arrived.
The Partridge Pea (Chamaecrista fasciculata ) still was sleepy with its partially closed leaves from the night before.
The sun was waking up too!
Off the nature nerds went! Our first planned stop was at creek that I passed over many times. However, it was on my list today. The creek only had one pool of water remaining. A pile of bones laid in the creek bed along with a lot of accumulation of old logs and debris.
Still on top the bridge I spotted the Small White Morning-glory (Ipomoea lacunosa ). Indeed it looked darn healthy! Furthermore creek edges are a great place to keep your eyes for this plant. The blossoms are very small compared to others in the Ipomoea genus.
Over the edge, an American Snout! I know not very good photo, but it would be id”able by any number of apps. If I had needed. But in this case no help was required with that long snout this critter has. π
We could not make it down to the creek bed. However, Jeanne and I was able to go under the bridge. Pretty cool construction. I had never seen one quite like this before.
The Texas Click Beetle (Alaus lusciosus ) was just awesome!
No bones about it we were having fun. A couple more treasures from this spot tomorrow. π

Gorgeous sunrise shot through the trees! Of course the click beetle is way cool.
Thanks and it was!
Click beetles are so much fun. That bridge is interesting. Ive never seen one like it before.
Love click beetles!!
That one clicked a lot and loud. Really neat. I remember in college we had a group at someone’s parents’ house at a pool. Girls were all doing what girls do except this one. I found a click beetle. When I started showing how if you turn it over it clicks to upright itself, I had a crowd of boys around me totally fascinated. That is an experience I will never forget. This girl wasn’t paid much attention by the boys normally.
Thats too funny Kathyπ
And the best thing was that, after its wild ride, the beetle lived to click again!
Yep! π
