Fossil Hill (part 10)

It was almost time to head home after exploring for six hours. So half way down the driveway, we stopped to look at one last place.

Blue Funnel-lily (Androstephium caeruleum).

Down the throat!

Put your nose to this one! Sometimes you will get whiff of a vanilla scent.

The buds were as beautiful as an open flower.

The leaves are a bit fleshy and resembles a grass blade.
Partially open.

A two-fer!

Just like me it was time to head out like this dung beetle scurrying quickly away.

So I am sure you will agree with me, Jeanne and Wayne have an amazing place. Fossil Hill is lucky to have such great land stewards. Thank you Jeanne and Wayne!

Keep looking!

The more you know, the more you see and the more you see, the more you know

  1. Saving the best for last, I think! I love this funnel-lily time of year. My backyard prairie celestials are blooming now too. ❤

  2. The best for me is the dung beetle. I love to watch them when they have a dung ball. Yes the land is lucky to have Jeanne and Wayne and vice versa.
