Now we were up among more rocks which were covered in the lichens and mosses. So I bet you can guess the jest of this post. π
The rocks were covered with lots of mosses and lichens. The colors are amazing! Crustose and foliose lichens. The different shades of the mosses intermingled with the lichens!Sometimes the mosses seek the shade under the lichen covered rocks. These little lichens had an inflated appearance. This would be useful for ID’ing them. However, I have done very little of ID’ing lichens on rocks yet. These jewels are type of jelly lichen. When not damp, they will appear blackish to the eye.A small pebble was like a cupcake with a crustose lichen frosting.Next we started to come across a different type of rock. The rocks had these cool layers. Here was the side view of the above rock. Look at those layers! The shapes were fascinating!Same rock!Concretion is the term to know. A concretion is a hard, compact mass formed by the precipitation of mineral cement within the spaces between particles, and is found in sedimentary rock or soil. This Wikipedia article gives a great overview of concretions.More of the cool rocks!
Those are some of the coolest rocks ever. I bet you can see the five planets from your place. As usual some great pictures.
I will be looking for the planets for sure if clear a sky. π
