Today, I went to Ft. Worth to take in the “World of Orchids”. However, I know nothing about orchids except for our local native species in the Spiranthes genus. None of those were at this exhibit.
As you walk into the exhibit, they showcase the countries from which the orchids are from.
A close up the first orchid I saw, Phalaenopsis Moth Orchid. They did not have species labels so I used Google Photos app to ID them. However, do not bet the farm on these IDs. There were nine genera at the exhibit. I saw eight of them.
Cattleya Orchid.
Oncidium Orchid is known as the Dancing-lady Orchid. I definitely can see that.
Phalaenopsis Moth Orchid.
Phalaenopsis Moth Orchid.
Phalaenopsis Moth Orchid.
Dendrobium Orchid.
Vanda Orchid.
Cymbidium Boat Orchids.
Not an orchid, but the banana tree. However, there were more orchids under it.
The last orchid. And this was my favorite, Paphiopedilum Lady’s Slipper!
A great exhibit, even if you don’t know a thing about orchids like me. For me, there was an extra bonus, Dottie Woodson was there as a volunteer. Even though photos are nice, there is nothing like seeing a show in person. You have until April 9th to see it for yourself!
Final photo (from this morning’s walk)! We got 1.94″ of rain from the storm yesterday and it filled our dry pond! Yeah!
Looks really neat! I read an interesting book about the illegal orchid trade a while back called the orchid thief. Very interesting. You might enjoy it
Beautiful orchids. Glad your pond filled.
Good for you on the rain! Just a little bit here outside of Houston–thankfully no windstorm like much of DFW.
Lucky for us we missed the big winds too.
I’m planning to see the exhibit later this month. Thanks for the preview!
You will love it!
