45th or now maybe 46th

I bet almost all of you have heard about the closing of Fairfield Lake State Park. The good news is that now Texas will have another golf course, arrggg. 😡

When I googled Texas, I found that Texas ranks 45th in public ownership. In fact that is only 4.2% land area for the public to enjoy the outdoors. So now maybe we will be 46th? In any case, there are only five states with less. We have only been to Fairfield once. But the memories were awesome. At the time we owned a small jon boat and I was focused mostly on birds. Here was what I photographed that day.

Our visit was twelve years ago in June on the lake only. We never got to walk the trails. Maybe you have some fond memories too?

You only have until February 28, 2023 to visit the park.

  1. Those are phenomenal shots Mary! Love the green eye and webbed feet of the cormorant. And the comparisons of the terns.

  2. Beautiful pictures as always. Sad day for Texas – for wildlife, native grasses and Forbes. Now, this precious habitat will be turf grasses, herbicides and pesticides.

Spent few hours at Grasslands yesterday. Never forget how blessed we are with this treasure.

      1. Yes, I did. They have also done a lot of burning and post oak savanna grassland restoration work. I’ll email a few pics to you.
