Still likes to carry a stick

So not a lot time to go outside today. It was Walmart and take-trash-to-dump day. But still Gracie needs her walks! Of course, I do too!

Exciting news and photo from Kathy…she had a Rufous Hummingbird visit her! Thanks Kathy!

Right at the start of the afternoon walk, a Great Spreadwing (Archilestes grandis) was next to our garden pond!

Desert Firetails (Telebasis salva) were mating at the garden pond!

There were multiple pairs mating!

The Horsemint or Lemon Beebalm (Monarda citriodora) was leaning a bit.

The carpenter bees are still out! This was a male told by the white face. We have been stacking wood just for them lately.

A Squash Bug (Anasa) perched on the Four O’clock (Mirabilis)!

And Gracie was feeling pretty good on her 13th birthday!

  1. Happy birthday Gracie!
Well the Rufous appears to have left. Only 1 bird left and can’t tell what she is.
I love your damselflies. Earlier this week I took a last dip in our creek. It was very cold water, spring fed. But we watched quite a few small blue damselflies congregating and a few darners zipping around. Oh and one checkered setwing. Bright red face, so pretty.

    1. What a brave woman to get in cold water. 😉 I would have just watched odes from the bank. 🤣
      Gracie says thanks!❤️

  2. My number one joy around fresh water is to wade in it if it is stony bottomed like we have. All summer the water was not healthy to be in/not moving. Never got a single swim. While walking in it there were spots where silt and clay has settled and felt like quick sand. We desperately need a gully washer to bring back our solid bottom creeks. I got to just above my waist and said that was enough body in the cold water. Amazing how quickly the body adjusts to the temp though.

    1. I don’t think I would have waded in pass the first toe in the water. Next we will hear how you did the polar bear plunge. 🤣
