Today, Jeanne and I did a driving tour mostly in Cooke County. So I have a lot photos to name. Hence, today’s post will be photos that I took here at the house today.
This morning Jim found this Sleepy Orange butterfly in the garage. Poor thing had to spend the night in the garage, the butterfly not Jim 😉 It landed on him so he was able catch it easily.
I opened the lid to the container and took a few shots.
It unfurled its proboscis for me!
Here was the full length!
It showed no signs of wanting to fly away. So I moved it out the container to release.
Up in its face. Time to quit messing with it and we went on our morning walk.
For the afternoon walk with Gracie, this tiny micro moth was on a blade of grass. It was about 5 millimeters!
On the Liatris, was Brunner’s Mantis (Brunneria borealis ). At first I thought it was a walkingstick since it was skinny and not like the Carolina Praying Mantis.
The typical mantis head! This species reproduces by parthenogenesis . A form of asexual reproduction…amazing! Males are unknown and it is flightless. (BugGuide)
Keep looking!
The more you know, the more you see and the more you see, the more you know.
I love the sleepy orange butterfly.
I love those skinny mantids!! So sneaky disguise!!
Whoa, I never heard of that mantis species. Intriguing all the way around!
