Two guests

Today, I have two guest photographers! Both had exciting finds!

First photo! Not much to see eh. Well, Suzanne was alerted to the frass (poop) on her driveway.

Here is the plant that was nearest to the concrete, White Honeysuckle (Lonicera albiflora). So Suzanne alerted by the frass, she started the hunt.

First she found the stripped leaves.

Well, hidden but Suzanne sharp eyes spotted it! Success was hers!

The underside the Snowberry Clearwing (Hemaris diffinis) is brown to match the vine. Great camo!

A beautiful cat! Great find Suzanne and thanks for sharing with us! In addition to the green form caterpillar, this species’ caterpillar has a brown form as well.

This is my photo of an adult of the Snowberry Clearwing (July 2021). Notice that part of the forewing has a clear area. This moth can easily be mistaken for bumble bee.

Second guest photographer, Judy! She found this amazing Pink-striped Oakworm (Anisota virginiensis) caterpillar! Adult males have a translucent area on their forewing. Maybe Judy will spot the adult next? Fingers crossed! BugGuide only has one record.

Thank you to both of the photographers today for sharing!

Keep looking!

  1. Judy, that’s a very pretty cat!! I’d love to see the adult. Mary, thanks for allowing me to share my exciting find. I remember your July 2021 post – I have it bookmarked. I believe you found the scales that fell off the wings to create the clear patches. It enchanted me then and still does.
