What did you see today?

Per our usual, the day started with our walk with Gracie!

She was feeling good this morning and led the way!

The sunrise was pretty too!

On my walk to the mailbox later, the Western Ironweed (Vernonia baldwinii) glowed!

The Blue Salvia (Salvia azurea) has started to bloom. Jeanne and I collected seed for this a few years back for NRCS. So someday hopefully it will make it into the nursery trade!

Even before it blooms, it is beautiful!

A little weevil had stopped for a bite here. Always like to see the insects chowing down on our native plants!

The leaves!

The Robber Flies (Diogmites) are on the lookout for their next meal!

Prairie Gaillardia (Gaillardia aestivalis)!

The backsides are as interesting as the top!

Arkansas Yucca (Yucca arkansana) seedpod!

Final photo of a stem of the Arkansas Yucca (Yucca arkansana)!

Also I saw one Monarch sail by. Hope you saw some good stuff like I did today!

These ant queens live 500% longer than workers. Now we know why.

Keep looking!

The more you know, the more you see and the more you see, the more you know.

  1. I love the Diogmites. They are so cool looking.
    I miss the Gaillardia aestivalis.
Painted Flower Farm sometimes carries the Salvia azurea.
If you had entered the seedheads of Ironweed in the NPSOT photo contest I would vote for it if I could vote.
But the best is the first photo of Gracie walking towards the woods!

    1. Good to know about Painted Farms in Denton. Thanks!
Thank you for the vote πŸ™‚
And any time Gracie is enjoying life is precious now. Since she is not doing well.
