A find in the road

We were heading back to our vehicles on the Forest Service Road. With our eyes peeled, we found these two beauties. Both were dead, but that was no reason to ignore them.

And this were our last finds of the First Wednesday. These two Lyric Cicada (Neotibicen lyricen ssp. lyricen ‘Western form lyricen’) were lying dead in the road just waiting for me. I brought them home for a closer look.

The wing veins were as beautiful as any stain glass picture!

However, most impressive were the orange ocelli (simple eyes)! I don’t know if the ocelli becomes orange after death or not. Can’s say I have ever had the opportunity to see a live one up close.

The ocelli were like orange jewels!

To sum it up, it was a wonderful outing! Furthermore, treasures had just waited for us to discovered them! Tomorrow’s post will be about the driving tour we took today. See you then!

Keep looking!

    1. Sorry, I couldn’t resist. There is website that has the different cicada species song. I will look it up tomorrow and post the link here.

    1. I guess the thing to do is access the website where you can listen to the cicadas and compare the sounds on site.
