Open wide

Our temperature dropped from 96 degrees to 76 degrees this afternoon. Whew wasn’t that nice!

A few drops to start!

And then a few more!

And the dark clouds were pretty.

Then the sky opened wide! We got .35 inches. It was wonderful!!!!

Cracks this morning!

Maybe a tad less cracked open after the rain?

A Hackberry Emperor! I have not seen many this season 🙁

While waiting for Gracie to catch up, I took a moment to look closely at the Hackberry tree. Can you spot the bug?

The Rough Stink Bug (Brochymena chelonoides), a native! (tentative ID) See this link for more about Rough Stink Bugs.

Edgar was experiencing a new thing on the roof…light rain!

The last open wide! Baby bluebirds at our nest box by the mail box. Just hope the parents can find enough food for them. We do have some grasshoppers. Yeah!

  1. Well I clicked on that link for the stink bug and it has changed my mind about hating all stink bugs. We have many kinds and some or most all sting our peaches when they are just out of bud stage. this causes disfiguring of the peaches to the point of not being edible. Where they sting, a dimple forms and the flesh of the peach is hard and woody at that spot. We have not mastered how to control them thus we lose the majority of our peaches. I see a gray mottled stink bug regularly so now I will have to check them closely for the antennae marks and thorax teeth. I bet we have the “pestiferous brown marmorated stink bug”. I like that word pestiferous. I printed 3 pages from the link to keep with me in the orchard. Thanks Mary for the education

  2. Edgar seems puzzled by the rain. Not sure what to do. And i worry about birds finding enough to feed babies. So few bugs in my yard. Like Kathy i like the word pestiferous.

  3. Lucky you! We didn’t get a drop but at least our temps went down into the 80s yesterday evening.

    1. Darn! And we were certainly lucky although it made it mighty humid this morning. Hopeful you will get some next time.

  4. Your cool front never made it down here 🙁
    Gary says try resending it.
    This heat is being pestiferous!

  5. I think there must be a technical issues…I should try to send via snail mail 😉 But don’t hold your breath…
