Slow-mo

So I was playing with my phone and the hummers are back. Hence, I am sharing my fun!

First one!

The male!

Claire agreed, this is the Agreeable Tiger Moth (Spilosoma congrua)! Do you notice the pinkish flower looking appendage at the rear end? This is called a corema (plural- coremata). The corema is pheromone signaling organ that is on the males of some Lepidoptera species. It is not often seen. Love is in the spring air! And thanks Claire for the help on this one!

Keep looking!

  1. Agreeable Tiger moth is lovely. I’ve seen this moth before and (not knowing its proper name) called it “snowy owl” moth, but never saw that gorgeous pink corema. Great hummers videos too.

  2. I love seeing the hummer flight slowed down – what incredible wing agility! Cool about the corema – never heard of that.
