20 degrees and a dance

That was the difference at our house between yesterday and today! So it was 92 yesterday and yep you got it, only 72 for a high today. Furthermore, that wind was howling overnight as well.

These Formica ants looked glassy. They had a caterpillar or a catkin they had hauled up, but I was not able to get focused fast enough. And thanks Diane for the confirmation!

Indian Paintbrushes (Castilleja indivisa) are really starting to pop up now. This is the annual.. Both the annual and the perennial paintbrushes are hemiparasitic. The flower of these species are tiny and inconspicuous. The bracts are the colorful parts.

The frogs are singing now that they have plenty of water in the ponds and fields! Certainly seems worth singing about, eh!

I saw my first of season Scissortail Flycatcher in Wise County yesterday morning. The Lincoln Sparrows (like this one) are visiting my front yard now too.

The Black-chins are certainly back. I have not seen a Ruby-throat but then I don’t see them as often at our house.

Looks like a dance move to me. However this is serious business. It is thought to be a defense against a perceived threat, in this case, me LOL.
