Mephitis mephitis

The early morning light is always so beautiful! And we managed to get the first walk of the day while the sun was rising.

I have been watching this Garden Spider the last few days. Yesterday, she was looking a bit shriveled at 7am. Of course who could blame her, it was 35 degrees.
A closer view of yesterday’s 35 degrees!

Today at 7am, it was 43 degrees. She looks a bit more lively!

At 3pm and 76 degrees, she had caught a couple of tiny insects! I am not sure what is going on with the web?

And the sunrise was colorful this morning!

Many of next spring’s plants are popping up. I do not know if the Yarrow will freeze back before coming out for real in the spring. Let me know, if you know 🙂

Skunk! I am delight to see one! And Gracie always makes a wide berth around them now. As a puppy, there was many a bath needed before she learned to avoid them LOL!

A front view of the Striped Skunk (Mephitis mephitis). We parted ways at this point on our afternoon walk.

Keep looking!

The more you know, the more you see and the more you see, the more you know.

  1. Such a pretty skunk. And i too wonder whats up with the spider web. Looks like she was drunk when she made it. But her time is about up so maybe shes just tired and doesn’t care anymore.

  2. Wow how exciting to see a skunk during the day. I saw your Mephitis mephitis title and was so excited then you string us along to the end 🙂
I’m not sure on the yarrow. I think it will stay as a “green rosette” all winter unless we have a really harsh cold spell, then it might die back.
On the spider, I like Judy’s idea, drunk. My thought was she had a bad nightmare and went berserk.
And you did not fail me! I saw the color the sunrise was casting down here this morning and wondered if you were getting that same color way up there. I thought, well if she did hopefully she will post a picture. And you did!

    1. I’m all about the drama LOL.
On the yarrow, I guess we need to watch what happens eh.
Judy may have something there on drunk or drugs?
And how funny about the sunrise, but very cool you got the same effect that morning! Love it!

    1. Gracie doesn’t like baths or maybe a skunk’s spray finally got in her eyes. Whatever it was I’m glad she avoids them. 🤣
