Signs of approaching fall and cooler weather are heading our way. The forecast for my house says Tuesday the weather will only be in the 80’s! Can’t wait!
Isn’t this tree frog the cutest?
So when I got closer, it went back down the hole on our oblisk!
Next up is the Rice Stink Bug (Oebalus pugnax )! I do not think this one is quite mature yet, but it is sporting the prominent spines, (projecting forward) that are are distinctive in adults.
I believe this is an earlier instar of the bug above.
Carolina Mantis (Stagmomantis carolina ) gave me the eye!
Here is a sign of fall coming (and cooler weather). This is the Green-lip Ladies-tresses (Spiranthes lacera var. gracilis )!
A side view. You must get down close to look inside to see the green. Soon the other common Spiranthes cernua will be popping up.
Finally, the Smooth Gayfeather (Liatris mucronata ) has started to bloom at our house! The migrating Monarchs should be passing by very soon!

Keep looking!
The more you know, the more you see and the more you see, the more you know.
I’m excited to see the fall blooming orchids are appearing. And I love that tree frog!
I love the frog too. Article on fluorescence is nice. Now for scientists to just figure out why critters do that.
