Camo!

The Synchlora genus of moths belongs in the family of Geometridย Mothsย (Geometridae) which are commonly called inchworms. The Synchlora genus has the remarkable habit of adorning themselves with bits of flowers for camouflage. I found this one on grass but the Lyre-leaf sage is very thick here. That is what I suspect it used for camouflage.

Can you find the caterpillar?

Here you can see it easier with my hand.

Closer!

It is hard to tell which end is the head.

Here it is inching along!

Here you can see the two sets prolegs which is diagnostic for inchworms.

It had curled back again. The common name for the subfamily is Emerald moths. As adults, they are a pretty green color.

Keep looking!
