Cedar Waxwings

Good birds on my first walk of the day this morning. Cedar Waxwings! Also today had a bunch of Pine Siskins, robins, sapsuckers, White-crowned, Harris’, Fox, and Field Sparrows, bluebirds, blue jays, a kestrel, chickadees, phoebe, meadowlarks, Turkey Vultures, and a scolding Bewick’s Wren.

The Loggerhead Shrike found a new menu item…a Praying Mantis!
This Red Oak leaves were flaming red!

Keep looking!

  1. Yes, looks like an irruption year for siskins. We saw a bunch last week at the Lake Weatherford boardwalk. Nice to get Cedar waxwings this early in the season too. They usually don't show up around our house until January.

  2. That shrike with the skinny mantis on the barb cracks me up. Been hearing siskins here for several weeks but no waxwings.
