We continued on keeping an eye on Tuesday’s weather.
The colors were vibrant. And notice the gray clouds! I bet some of you were wishing for the clouds today. 😉
Next we headed to a patch of American Basket-flower (Plectocephalus americanus)!
The Western Leaf-footed Bug (Leptoglossus clypealis) seemed to favor the flowers that were going to seed. Perhaps it was better camouflage for them.
Not just the birds and bees. 😉
Sachems were visiting too!
The orangey Dodder (Cuscata) had found a host. Some species of Cuscata are host specific.
Only last week the Skeleton Plant (Lygodesmia texana) was sporting its beautiful pink flower. Now the fluff. Oh and did you spot the spider?
What a beauty, the female Short-wing Katydid (Obolopteryx)! So I am tempted to put it as a Common Short-wing Katydid (Obolopteryx brevihastata). However after reading about that genus you really need to look closely at the reproduction systems. In this case BugGuide said for the female, it is the female subgenital plate and ovipositor.
So all that tactile experience playing in the “dirt” has multiple benefits!
