Ahh, the new year, 2024. Definitely I have high hopes for new discoveries! But first I promised the white thing in yesterday’s post would be revealed.
I started the climb up the six foot bank.
Briar knew this would take a few minutes. So she laid down. LOL
Not trash! But this big ole white gilled mushroom!
I was not sure what the reddish spots were. The mushroom did not bruise that color.
The gills were so pretty!
And the mushroom had done all the dirt moving.
Some of you may have noticed the other mushroom. It had taken me a moment to notice it. It had been hidden under the leaves. No creatures were seen on either.
So now down I went. However in order to admire the Carolina Buckthorn leaves a quick stop was made.
Further down on a log lying across the ravine, a nice group of puffballs. In fact some even had a little puff left in them.
Squeeze under. You can do it! I was able to go over that time. ๐
Thanks Claire for letting us keep Briar for you!

My goofy city dog. Thank YOU for keeping her!!
Neat article about finding out source of mystery noise.
We love your goofy buddy. ๐ Who would have guess about the big noises.
I remember you taught me about puffballs. Fun. And a little encouragement goes a long way.
The movie was actually her second time under the log. She protested more the first time๐คฃ
One of my fav terms – from Robin Kimmerer’s book Gathering Moss – puhpowee – the power that causes a mushroom to rise up from the earth overnight. What a wonderful expression.
Way to go Briar!
I love that term but never can remember it. Thank you!
