The sights was abundant at Meridian SP! Both close and far!
Jeff led us towards the grotto seen here in the background. There was lots Maidenhair ferns hanging under the ledge. It was all brown. They haven’t had much rain either. Jeff had been to the park many times and thus knows the good spots.
The view of the part of the lake.
Everyone agreed that the Shin Oak (Quercus sinuata var. breviloba) would be at home in a Japanese garden.
A large fossil impression!
Fungus on juniper bark!
The neon yellow green lichen (Chrysothrix) was on quite a few of the junipers!
Ray took a closer look at the granules on the lichen.
More Chrysothrix!
Watch your step on the paths!
The twisty trunk of the Shin Oak!
Moss layers on shelves of dirt on the side of a bank!
Jeff led us to a spring, but the drought has left it dry. A tiny Purple Cliff-brake fern was trying its best to survive.
Moss highlighted concretions on the underside of a ledge.
Bill spotted these fossils! More on Meridian SP tomorrow.
Note from today: Two Black Vultures eggs in our old well house! I will keep you posted on their progress.
Wonder why the tree is so twisty. Love the rooty path. Really pretty.
I wondered too. 🙂
So exciting about the vulture eggs! Black vultures often used an old well house at the Nature Center for their nesting.
I just hope they make it. Previous attempts have failed. 🤷🏻♀️
Lots of nice rocks and their friends!
