Nest Wrecker

Jeanne and I were out to check the nest boxes by 7am. I had been so hoping the one hundred degrees temps were gone. Nope, we made it to 101 today.

Two bluebird nestlings seemed to be doing alright!
Another box has three eggs. We are not as hopeful for those. Nor were we hopeful for the chickadee nest we found last week that had been disturbed. By next week we should know.
Yellow Bitterweed (Helenium amarum var amarum) next to the road.

The Flat-top Goldenrod or Shiny Goldenrod (Solidago nitida) is doing well this year. Many prairies are covered with them!
A Snakeweed Grasshopper (Hesperotettix viridis) was hiding in the Flat-top Goldenrod or Shiny Goldenrod (Solidago nitida)!
The Rattlesnake-master (Eryngium yuccifolium) has finished blooming. This didn’t stop a spider from building a nest in them.

So me, the wrecker decided to find out what kind of spider was inside. Moreover I thought I was going to find a jumping spider or at the least spiderlings.
Indeed I was surprise to discover these lovely orange eggs. Furthermore I don’t recall finding eggs of this kind before.
Well, I tried to restore their nursey. Sure hope it worked. Fingers crossed!

It was a good day!

  1. Parrots are so much fun. But so are other birds, probably all. There are lots of pretty grasshoppers aren’t there.
