No Pollen

Wow, we had a low of 69 degrees. Indeed it was hard to believe. Well, that won’t last long. LOL.

When they move it is usually easy to spot.
So easy to miss the Giant Swallowtail when they sit still, eh!
The Monarchs were out this morning!
A favorite of mine on the Lizardtail (Oenothera curtiflora), a Clouded Crimson (Schinia gaura) cat! Watch for the lovely white and pink adult moths.
The American Bumble Bee (Bombus pensylvanicus). Male bumbles only eat nectar and have one thing on their mind…sex.
None of the bumbles this morning had any pollen on their hind legs. So perhaps they were all males or next year’s queens. Can I say queen-to-be? LOL. The new queens will eat pollen building their fat reserves to hold them over for the winter. The old queen, the workers, and males all die. Sonoran Bumble Bee (Bombus sonorus)! Check out this “The bumblebee lifecycle” or Natural History of Bumble Bees.

Hope you enjoyed the “cool” morning too.

  1. The “Bumblebee Life Cycle” is a wonderful story book on their life cycle.
Enjoyed the mango pics – esp the fireflies. But so sad about that mountain of trash.
