First stop on my walk was for the Diamondback Spittlebug (Lepyronia quadrangularis)!
The Giant Ragweed (Ambrosia trifida) hosted the Red-banded Leafhopper (Graphocephala coccinea). Such a colorful friend!
What could I find on the Western Ironweed (Vernonia baldwinii) this morning?
In case you missed it in the above photo, a closer view of the cat! So I’m wondering if that is pollen stuck at the ends of some of their hairs.
Hmmm, a lot of munching!
At least some of the munching was done by the Wavy-lined Emerald (Synchlora aerata) larva. They adorn their body with plant fragments to camouflage as they feed.
At first glance it would be easy to mistaken this caterpillar as frass.
Another tiny resident on the Ironweed!
Then I felt a swoosh of wind. Next sprinkles. Indeed the rain followed. At first I started to pick up the pace. However being a quarter mile from the house, I knew I was going to get very wet. May as well enjoy it. LOL.
Indeed I was soaked to the bone. And I thoroughly enjoyed it.
That camouflaged cat sure is great. So many different ways they do it.
Those are some pretty cool troopers- colors and shapes.
We received no rain – glad you did!
