Lucky Cats

The quail survey for 2025 has concluded.

Yep sunrise for the survey!
A little later.
We had pulled to the side of road as per our usual for the third point of the morning. Whoa did this cat get lucky!
Then I looked further on the Antelope Horns (Asclepias asperula ssp capricornu) for more!
In fact there were all sizes of the Queens! I counted four on the plant.
From this I presume that the cat eats backwards. Hmmm, I would have thought they would have worked their way forward.
While examining the milkweed I found multiple of these half cocoons. No clue to its identity. And a little mite snuck in the photo too. πŸ™‚
Mating Assassin Bugs (Reduviidae)!
Great camo, the walkingstick(Diapheromeridae)!
Another season done!

Wasn’t the worse count I have had in all my years of doing it. All 5 calls by Bobs were in the second site visits. We can hope next year will be better.
