I don’t go far because there is always something that will stop me.
Sometimes all I got to do see something interesting is look on our door. Indeed tis amazing how this female Straight-lanced Meadow Katydid (Conocephalus strictus) clinged to the glass!
Here was a handsome fella, the Common Hentz Jumping Spider (Hentzia palmarum). The males can be distinguished by their dark long front legs!
Our old blackberry (Rubus) patch still has a few berries. And Red-banded Leafhopper (Graphocephala coccinea) likes to dine on the blackberry plants sucking plant sap. Yum for us both!
The Brown Blister Beetle (Epicauta immaculata) feeds on primarily parasitoids of grasshopper eggs. So I think the herbaceous Eggplant Tortoise Beetle (Gratiana pallidula) was probably safe. 🙂
Definitely think the Dickcissels are having a good year!
So I haven’t seen the Loggerhead Shrike hanging out here for a month or so. But here was the evidence that they still come around, part of a Rainbow Scarab (Phanaeus)!
So fun to stop and watch. Like I did for this Obscure Bird Grasshopper (Schistocerca obscura) chowing down.
Amazing video of grasshopper. And i love Emily’s blog. That pic she got of the hummer with its tongue out is special.
It was fun to watch its mouth sawing thru the greenbriar. And the hummer was so very cool! The real photographer! 🙂
Yummy Greenbrier! Great video of grasshopper chowing down.
Leafhopper colors are wonderful – as are those birds in Oregon.
