Up Early

Today Jeanne and I were up early to do the annual survey for Bobwhites at LBJ NG.

We were a little bit late getting started, but this was the first stop.
Second point, the Greenthread (Thelesperma filifolium)! And Jeanne saw an American Bumble Bee here.

At the third survey point was the Sleepy Daisy (Xanthisma texanum)!

Additionally I paid my respects to the moon at number three. We had high hope for a bob here. But no luck this year.
The dew covered grasses at the fourth stop!
Also a Yellow Puff (Neptunia lutea)!
Prairie Bluets (Hedyotis nigricans) at point five!
There were an abundant of the White Compass Plant (Silphium albiflorum) at this stop.

Finally the last photo at 8am at point five, the Greenthread (Thelesperma filifolium).

We had run out of time to stay within the parameters of the survey. No bobwhites were heard this morning. However at each stop we recorded between 9 and 15 bird species. We saw lots of rabbits and one Caracara eating a opossum roadkill on the way. That was exciting!

Fingers crossed tomorrow we hear a bobwhite.
