Zoomed By

On the way to an appointment we zoomed by the something white on the side of the road. Well, we zoomed by it again when we were on way home. So I decided to go back and see exactly what it was. 🙂

Indeed I had my suspicions but we were zooming. It was a wonderful patch of fluff (coma) of the Antelope Horns (Asclepias asperula ssp capricornu) milkweeds!
The wind was blowing enough that the seeds floated passed me.

The open pods are cool too!
Greenthread (Thelesperma filifolium) were nearby. The orangey parts are not petals but sepals with the pale edges.
On another one a Geometer (Geometridae) caterpillar or inchworm if you prefer, was hanging out.

A Sutured Longhorn Beetle (Batyle suturalis) stopped only for moment before they flew off!

Packaged nicely before opening!
Since this area was on the side of the road there was limestone gravel. A perfect habitat for the small Spreading Sida (Sida abutifolia)!
Further on an American Basket-flower (Plectocephalus americanus) and a bee. Love to see a bee!

Indeed I was glad I went back for a look!
