Second Subbing Day

It has been a week since I had checked the nest boxes for Jeanne. And what an absolute gorgeous day for checking again!

Started the morning with two eggs!
Certainly I am pulled to check the milkweeds for cats.
No cats but this delightful little green one was resting on a leaf! The Gray tree frog (Hyla versicolor) or a Cope’s tree frog (Hyla chrysoscelis) are impossible to tell apart. Unless you hear them call in the field. Furthermore I probably couldn’t even if I heard them. LOL.
Two Bluebird nestlings that will soon be fledging!
A white interesting egg case caught my eye!

It had a cluster of tiny eggs. I brought them home so maybe I will find out what they are.
This box last week had nestlings. Someone had a meal. 🙂
The ants were back! This box was clean last week.
The Titmice will be heading out to make their way in the world anytime now!
A stop at the thistle (Cirsium) had a couple of dining American Bumble Bee (Bombus pensylvanicus)!
All finished. As I locked the gate this cutie was near the lock. No one has given them a common name yet. My first suggestion is MasterLock Planthopper or the Gatekeeper Planthopper. LOL. Perhaps you can think of a better name? 😉 Tentatively I think they belong in the Issid Planthoppers family and species Fowlerium acutum.

Thank you to Jeanne!

  1. I like Gatekeeper planthopper. Do you ever see many cats on the milkweed? I don’t here and have quite a few

  2. I’ve been wondering if you are currently raising any wildlife in your lab. I’m interested in the outcome of that cluster of eggs. 🙂

  3. So sad about the wren box and young!
Great article on the platypus – such a unique creature.
    And thank you for subbing!
