On the way home I made a quick stop at the LBJ NG to check on my friends.
The Comanche Peak Prairie-clover (Dalea reverchonii) is a plant that has a NatureServe conservation rating of G2/S2. So these were planted on the LBJ Grasslands 15-20 years ago. They have not spread from the original spot. They are threatened by residential and commercial development, cattle grazing, road construction and widening, transmission line construction, recreational activities, and invasive plants.
Heller’s Plantain (Plantago helleri).
Indeed the red mite was quite the contrasting color on the Yellow Stonecrop (Sedum nuttalianum)!
This is a real cutie that only opens after about 4 o’clock in the afternoon. It is the Rock-pink Flameflower (Phemeranthus calcaricus)! The basal leaves are a bit succulent.
Greenthread (Thelesperma filifolium) is getting past their prime.
Looked like a Viking to me. LOL. Pineapple Cactus (Coryphantha sulcata).
You might not like to see a mite, but I do enjoy them. Furthermore we can’t do with out they as act as decomposers, nutrient recyclers, predators or parasites in the ecosystems.
Hi friends! Good to see they are hanging in there.
Interesting about glass frogs. We need to save so much here.
I’ll bet your friends were happy to see you too!
