Day 13 Trip Conclusion

We are back in North Texas. And what a trip we had! Here’s the wrap-up. Including a couple of movies that I was not able to share while we were in Alaska.

On May 13th in Basket Bay the Orcas popped up! This was incredible! We had already seen the Humpbacked and Gray Whales. The National Geographic naturalist told us there are two types, residents and transients. You can tell the difference if you see the patch behind the dorsal fin by color and shape. Not sure if anyone saw the patch. Additionally each type has a different diet. One eats only fish and the other eats only marine animals.

We saw the Harbor Seals on May 16th up close! It was time for them to start having their pups. They said if they stuck their heads high out the water they were getting tense. Then we would have to back off quickly. Instead 5 or 6 of them seemed to be just curious. Magical!

The last scheduled activity was the polar plunge. Some of the crew did it once a year. There were guests who did it too. It was on their bucket list. My bucket list was to watch someone else do it. Check. LOL.

Here are 3 of more than 20 some people who took the plunge! And they all said it was exhilarating. 🙂

Our adventure was over!

Don’t miss Emily’s photos. She has lots of really beautiful photos of the birds and all the other things we saw each day.

  1. Thank you so much for this amazing virtual adventure! I really appreciate the link to Emily’s photos too. Agreed about the polar plunge – just being there to witness it would be enough adrenaline for me!
