One Big Ole Tree

With the heavy rain on Wednesday I wanted to choose a spot that wasn’t knee deep in water. So on Thursday I chose a horse trail knowing that there would only be a few low spots to cross.

Barely stepping in the gate was a big old down tree! Hmmm, what treasures would we find. And you know we did. LOL.
At first I thought the nail head was a tinier mushroom growing on the larger fungus.
Missing half.

Three amigos!
Jeanne was looking at the bryophytes!
And then she saw the slime mold. They looked like my crinkly chocolate cookies that are dusted with powdered sugar, but of course much much smaller. Surely the fairies appreciate them! I did. šŸ™‚
Do you wonder if the fungus thought the cut end needed dressing up?
Every part of the tree was supporting fungi!

Turkeytail fungus!
Mold!
The black donut? šŸ˜‰

Indeed I was sure these fungi were talking to me.

What an awesome if not a slow start to our morning of exploring.
