Monday with the breeze in our faces we headed out. We were thankful for the breeze and hoped it kept up the rest of day. Less mosquitoes with a breeze. 🙂
First find, a Yellow American Blusher (Amanita flavorubens – tentative)!
The fields were covered with many patches of the wild onions (Allium).
Indeed an awesome tree covered in shelf fungus!
Purple Woodsorrel (Oxalis violacea)!
Tiny thalloid liverworts!
Jeanne was busy collecting. Notice the mosquito net on her hat. So we were glad we had the head gear. But still they were not too awful. Moreover we were able to not always be covered. The breeze you know. 🙂
Not to be left out, I did a bit of lichen collecting too.
This was my coolest find of the day, a Snaketongue Truffleclub (Tolypocladium ophioglossoid). It was about a centimeter tall with little pimples covering the club. The MushroomExpert.com goes into more detail about this fascinating friend.
Jeanne was leading the way and spotted a Rough Green Snake (Opheodrys asetivus)! Always a special treat!
Indeed we got wrapped up in the excitement!
I was sure our tree friend was telling us how silly humans are. LOL. At least that was my translation.
Don’t think I’ve ever seen so many shelf fungus in one place. Amazing
Can’t stop saying how amazing nature is. ☺️
Wow, the truffleclub mushrooms! Thanks for providing that link – I did a deeper dive.
I hope i get to see more of them someday.
Wow that fungus!! Had no idea cordyceps got fungus too!
