Rain Tomorrow?

Yep my fingers are crossed that we all get some rain tomorrow!

Indeed, the Prairie Parsley (Polytaenia nuttallii) had a boat load of Spittlebug (Cercopoidea) spit!

There were several exoskeletons in the spit!
Just the hind end of a spittlebug nymph!
Here I encouraged one spittlebug nymph to leave their spit.
The grasshopper nymphs were jumping around like popcorn popping. Makes me happy that Loggerhead Shrike I saw a day or two ago will have some food!
So I was looking for a Painted Lady caterpillar, but found this one instead. So couldn’t see their prolegs so not sure to which family they belong to. 🤷🏻‍♀️
Continuing my search for a Painted Lady.
Success!
The faux caterpillar (catkin)!

  1. That faux caterpillar sure had me fooled at first glance. Yes glad there are hoppers for all the birds.
    🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

  2. Catkins have fooled me many times. Cool to find spittle bug exoskeletons! I’ve never seen one and have disrupted many globs of spittle…

    1. Ha ha I guess I’m not alone getting fooled. Maybe it just the right time for spittle bugs because I have seen multiple of them over the last few days.
