Productive Day

Day two was another fun and interesting day. We ran across multiple nice finds.

A Buckeye cat was hiding up under an Elm leaf!

The crawdad’s chimney! We were in a wet area!
We started to see a bunch of these sedges. Neither of know much about sedges so I will go with INat ID for now, Cherokee sedge (Carex cherokeensis).
The tiny and beautiful Possumhaw (Ilex decidua) flower!
Future snacks, the Southern Dewberry (Rubus trivialis).. đŸ™‚
Today’s goal, a Trout Lily! Reese had told me where to find them. Most all of them had standing seed pods and flat leaves. So that suggests they were Erythronium albidum. Thank you Reese!

Additionally Jeanne collected 15 vouchers and I got 3 specimens. Another productive day!

  1. Crawdad chimneys are pretty cool. Funny about the complaint about copper. As much trouble as it was back then to complain it must have been really bad.
