Colors are really starting to pop. Of course it would definitely help if we got some rain. We did get a whopping 0.05″ last night. Every bit helps right!
Colors are just so vivid! A Cottonwood (Populus deltoides) catkins from a male tree. Males catkins will turn reddish.
The Red Paper Wasp (Polistes rubiginosus) is usually the wasp that will be found in cavities like a nest box. Personally I welcome them in our boxes as another great contributor to the ecosystem. A similar Polistes is P. carolina. They however are not cavity dwellers. Both need to be examined under a microscope to tell the different for certain.
Indian Paintbrush (Castilleja indivisa)!
Closeup!
FOS Winecup (Callirhoe involucrata).
The Convergent Lady Beetle (Hippodamia convergens) is a native to North America. There are over 480 species in 61 genera in the Coccinellidae (Lady Beetles) North America. They also come in many colors. A friend to many! Unless of course you are an aphid. LOL.
At first I thought it was going to be a small pile of poop. Drawing closer, quickly I saw it was an adult Salt Marsh Moth (Estigmene acrea). The larvae will feed on a wide variety of plants.
The more you know, the more you see and the more you see, the more you know
