Elephant Rock

Lake Murray State Park in Oklahoma was our ticket to another adventure. đŸ™‚ Our trip started on sunny Thursday.

I had made our reservation for the Elephant Rock campground. And why was it called Elephant Rock. Well, maybe we will see an elephant?
From our campsite I could see a large rock in the lake. Was that the elephant?
However first we had to get settled in. And this was our first greeter at the site, an Asian Lady Beetle bug (Harmonia axyridis). Interesting how the wing will stick out from under the elytra (hard outer cover) sometimes.
The Tiny Bluets (Houstonia pusilla) were among the plant friends in the grassy area.
Like many creatures in parks, they let you get closer to them. A Mockingbird was busy fetching their afternoon meal.

Just like the Mockingbird, the Canada Geese let me get within 15 feet of them.
Is this is the elephant rock? In my opinion it looked more like a horned lizard. Maybe it is not the elephant? Well, I will keep looking. LOL.

In any case, we are looking forward to exploring the park for a few days.

  1. It does look like a horned lizard. The pic of the mocking bird really is funny. Had to enlarge it to see the bird. What fun, a new place to explore.

  2. I wouldn’t call that an elephant rock either – too angular. When I first glanced at the mockingbird photo I thought it was some kind of plume moth. What a lucky shot!

  3. Maybe it’s just that most of the elephant is under water – more likely just a reference to size????
    Cool hogfish- what a face!
Will be looking at all those scientist videos at some point – look pretty interesting.
