Bon appétit! Not Me!

Twas another cold day, eh! At least we got a bit of rain last night. And the fungi seemed to appreciate the 0.2″ we got.

More of the Common Stinkhorns (Phallus impudicus) came up in the previous big patch area!
The gleba (the slime on the stinkhorn) still covered the opening on top!
More fungi! These beauty were about 6 inches across.

Indeed it was probably to cold for any insects to be out.

Another Common Stinkhorn that had all its gleba washed off from the overnight rain.
Tiny Bluets (Houstonia pusilla) are back! Can you find me in the photo. Hint: it is just a partial image in a reflection. 🙂
Indeed it was too cloudy for the Spring Beauties (Claytonia virginica) to be open.

Stinkhorns are said to be one of the fastest growing fungi in the world. However I would sure like to know who eats the tops off the stinkhorns?? Well, with a quick search I found some mammals do eat them including dogs. And some people eat the immature parts at the “egg” stage. Not me! LOL. But I do find them quite often missing their stinky caps. Bon appétit!
